Challenge: What am I passionate about?
Background: Women don’t realize their own true beauty, which are their own flaws.
Purpose: To empower women to accept their natural beauty. To think of flaws as a unique characteristic that separates them apart from everyone else.
Programs: Hand drawn, Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom
This gallery of illustrations represent my perception of body positivity.
This first image was an original idea to incorporate mother nature with the theme of body positivity to share the concept of accepting who we are. It is inspired by the origin of where we all come from, whether we grow up bigger or smaller than others.
This piece is named "Herself" because females should be encouraging each other rather than bringing “Her” down. For a Vietnamese American female, it is hard for us to find a place where we stand out. The beauty of Vietnamese culture is crafted from the Yellow Apricot Flower (Hoa Mai), the Vietnamese lotus, and the traditional ao dai. These are the few unique things that create the beauty within me as a Vietnamese American.
The second image is a remake of the original idea in which incorporates the concept of acceptance of natural physical beauty. Society does not necessarily accept all of these physical attributes, although it should be looked at as an unique way to define "Herself".
The idea is to shape the different “flaws” people think they may have, into something beautiful.
